Tracy Imhoff, owner, grew up in an artist home.  Taught by her father how to draw and paint alongside her siblings, she started college as an art major, switching to nursing.  She always loved art and continued to draw, paint, work in stained glass, and mural painting.  She also has volunteered working with children since l974.  Now she has combined these two loves and is painting and teaching children how to discover the artist within.  She has worked to make the Painting Marmot a fun place to hang out for both young and old.

The Painting Marmot was founded May 2006.  It is the only fine art supply store in at least a 75 mile radius.  This area of Colorado is known for its incredibly beauty and wildlife.  As well as having a healthy number of artist in Ouray and all the surrounding towns, it is a destination for vacationers and artists to come and enjoy.  It is only natural that one, even if you are not an artist, to want to record in some way.  "The Shop," is also a place where vacationing families can sign the kids up for a hour or two of creative fun so they can shop, hike or jeep, even take a relaxing hot springs soak or have a massage.

WHAT IS A MARMOT?
A marmot is related to the groundhog.  It is in the rodent family.  Marmots live in dens, usually in rocks in mountainous areas.  They like to play in the sun, eat plants like grasses and wildflowers, and are known to Estavate which is a light form of hibernation.  They live in family groups and will have a sentry marmot who sounds an alarm chirp when danger is near (other animals or humans)  Warning: they will eat your hiking boots if you leave them out of your tent.  Colorado's indigenous marmot is the Yellow Bellied Rock Marmot.
